Five Chadian nationales have been arrested in connection with illegal mining activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Commissioner, FCT Police Command, Olatunji Disu, who disclosed this, Tuesday, while briefing journalists after an expanded FCT Security Committee meeting in Life-Camp, said that the Police was investigating the matter.

Abuja Digest reports that arrest of the foreigners followed prior complaints from the Chairmen of Abaji and Bwari Area Councils, Abubakar Abdullahi and John Gabaya, respectively.

According to the CP, the meeting which was chaired by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, also constituted a committee to check influx of suspicious elements into the Territory and profile teachers of almajiri schools to fish out factitious ones; adding that the committee would work with the six Area Council Chairmen.

The CP added that the committee would also work with the FCT Department of Quality Assurance, Social Development Secretariat and almajiri schools, to ensure compliance in contents and avoid, in FCT, a repeat of the Muhammed Yusuf experience whose students later became extremists.

Members of the committee were drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Department of Security Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Navy and Department of State Security Service.
