FCTA Approves N7Bn For Primary School Teachers’ Arrears

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has approved the release of N7 billion for the payment of 25% outstanding arrears of Teachers in the Public Primary Schools in the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo made this known during a visit to the headquarters of FCT Universal Basic Education Board in Garki I District, Abuja.

Hayyo stated FCT will pay 40% of the outstanding arrears while the Area Councils pay 60%.

He added that the Administration has directed the Area Councils to pay within three months or the money be deducted at source and paid to the teachers.

Hayyo said that the FCT Administration has taken this action to ensure that the Teachers go back to the classrooms.

The Secretary affirmed that FCTUBEB is a key agency in the Administration that has proven its commitment to the core mandate of ensuring that access to school is given to every child of school age in the Territory.

He said that the Board has over 1000 schools and observed that there is shortage of teachers.

Hayyo stated that the essence of the visit was to see how the Secretariat can collaborate with the Board towards achieving their mandates.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Executive Chairman, FCT Universal Basic Education, Dr. Alhassan Sule, said some of the achievements of the Board include renovation of schools, training of Quality Assurance Officers, teachers , distribution of sporting equipment to schools and promotion of girl child education through the establishment of Ako girls’ Secondary School in addition to Board’s Special schools amongst others.

The Chairman said that the Korea Model School emerged over all best in Basic Examination Certificate ( BECE).
