Natives of the Federal Capital Territory have kicked against planned confirmation of a female and a non FCT native as Director in charge of Chieftaincy Affairs in the Area Council Services Secretariat of the FCT Administration.
The natives said the move by the FCT Administration to confirm a female and a non FCT native to Mann the affairs of the traditional institutions will not yield the desire result, as there may be a communication breakdown between the director and traditional rulers hence the traditional rulers won’t be comfortable to relate freely with her siting such gesture as a taboo to the traditional institution.
This position of the natives was contained in a press statement issued by the spokesman of Abuja indigenous group, Comrade Yunusa Yusuf, and made available to journalists, threatening that the planned confirmation will further threatens the existing smooth working relationship between the FCT natives and the FCT Administration.
The group maintained that Abuja natives are not against the career progression of a woman, but stressed that such sensitive position as strategic and peculiar to our well coveted tradition, should be seen to be thrown out for any reason and this to us would amount to a total disregard to our traditional institution.
We therefore wish to draw the attention of the Honourable minister to this act of disdain to our highly respected traditional institution to act swiftly to curtail any hitch as we shall vehemently resist the confirmation of the woman to Mann such sensitive position.
We advise the authority to scout out for a more suitable portfolio for the woman to allow for free flow of communications between our respected traditional rulers and the Area Council Secretariat.
