Oyo, Nigeria – July 5, 2023 – Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde met with the leaders of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba sociocultural group, on Wednesday in a bid to reconcile the two factions of the organization.
The meeting, which took place behind closed doors at the University of Ibadan Hotel in Ibadan, was also attended by the leaders of the two factions, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
In a statement released after the meeting, Makinde said that the focus of the meeting was to reconcile the two factions and to bring about unity among the Yoruba people. He said that the partisan issues and elections that had led to the rift had come and gone, and that it was now time to focus on the progress and unity of the region.
Adebanjo and Fasoranti both expressed their support for Makinde’s efforts to reconcile the two factions. Adebanjo said that he was “very happy” that Makinde had taken the initiative to bring about peace, and that he was confident that the two factions would be able to come together. Fasoranti said that he was “grateful” to Makinde for his efforts, and that he was “hopeful” that the two factions would be able to resolve their differences.
The meeting between Makinde and the leaders of Afenifere is a significant step towards resolving the rift in the organization. It is hoped that the two factions will be able to come together and put aside their differences for the sake of the Yoruba people.
