The Speaker of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Mathew Danjuma Yare, has facilitated the distribution of laptops to 12 ward councilors; in order to aid their legislative duties in the council.
The Speaker, who revealed this during the distribution of laptops to the ward councilors, commended the Executive Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for the intervention.
He said the Chairman approved the supply of the laptops to make the AMAC legislative arm to be ICT compliant, with a view to enhancing e-legislative activities.

He added that the councilors will soon commence the necessary training to make them compliant with new techniques in executing legislative responsibilities in AMAC, which he said will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks as well as waste of time in the discharge of its functions.
Yare, therefore, reiterated that the Maikalangu-led administration has placed high premium on information technology in all arms of the government, with special commitment to inject ICT in the council’s public service for effective service delivery.
He emphasized that the distribution of the laptops is the first step to ensure that all councilors in the council are compliant with modern trend of digital literacy.

The speaker further urged the beneficiaries of the laptops to ensure maximum use of the device to improve their performance in legislative duties.
He said: “In this 21st century, AMAC cannot afford to be left behind when it comes to ICT. Technology is everything. In this digital age, you get things done with just a touch of buttons. Therefore, as legislators, we have to be proactive in the discharge of our duties.
“I am particularly happy that we have a visionary leader in the Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, who took the initiative by approving the procurement of the laptops for the 12 ward councils. This is the first of its kind. It goes a long way to show that our Chairman means business in his transformation agenda.

“As the legislative arm of AMAC, we’ll ensure we will continue making laws for the betterment of the council. The laptops will go a long way in lessening our burden and making our legislative functions to be seamless. I encourage all the councillors to take good advantage of this golden opportunity to upgrade themselves.
“Gone are the days when people depended on archaic method of legislative duties. Presently, many legislative houses have adopted ICT and AMAC cannot be left behind. Therefore, let’s ensure that we take every opportunity to upgrade ourselves. The laptops will come handy in the upcoming ICT training for AMAC legislatures, which will be announced in due course.
