The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued a young woman from the hands of a suspected ritualist and armed robber.

This was made known in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, and shared with journalists in Abuja.

According to the statement, on January 31, 2025, around 11:30 a.m., police received a distress call from a hotel in Wuse District, reporting suspicious activity in one of the rooms.

“Upon swift response,” the statement read, “operatives discovered a 25-year-old woman, identified as Promise Eze from Ebonyi State, tied to a chair with her mouth covered in plaster. She was found unconscious and in severe distress. Officers immediately freed her and rushed her to the Wuse District Hospital, where she was revived.”

Preliminary investigations revealed a case of deception and violence. The victim had checked into the hotel a day earlier, on January 30, around 7:00 a.m., alongside a man who introduced himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State. However, during interrogation, the victim disclosed that she met the suspect online, where he used the alias Michael Prince, claiming to work with an oil company in Delta State.

After she declined his initial invitation to Delta, they agreed to meet in Abuja. The meeting, however, turned tragic. The suspect allegedly brandished a dagger, threatened, and overpowered her, tying her hands and legs, sealing her mouth, and locking her in the bathroom. He later stole her two phones before escaping.

Before fleeing, the victim reportedly overheard him calling suspected accomplices, saying he was going to regroup before returning to “finish the job.”

The Police have since launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and are working tirelessly to ensure his immediate arrest.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, strongly condemned the act, urging residents—particularly young women—to exercise caution when meeting people they only know online.

He further assured the public that the Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the FCT.
