In collaboration with local security outfits, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has rescued 58 kidnap victims from various kidnappers’ dens situated in neighboring communities.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. The victims were rescued from Udulu Forest in Gegu LGA of Kogi State, which borders Sardauna Forest in Nasarawa State and other kidnappers’ dens in communities neighboring the FCT.
The kidnappers engaged in a shootout with the security team coordinated by the police but were overpowered. They fled with varying degrees of bullet wounds, leaving their victims behind.
The rescue operation is part of the command’s joint efforts with other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters to combat violent crimes in the FCT, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Haruna Garba, called on FCT residents to be security conscious and provide credible information to the police to prevent threats to the safety and security of the residents.
The Police Command pledged its commitment to sustaining efforts to rescue any residents held hostage by criminals and bring the perpetrators to justice.
