Real Madrid’s away fixture against Valencia in La Liga this weekend has been postponed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following the devastating floods in eastern Spain that have claimed over 95 lives.
Villarreal’s home game against Rayo Vallecano was also suspended as part of the response to the disaster.
At La Liga’s request, the RFEF agreed to delay both matches scheduled for Saturday, along with three second-division games involving teams from the affected regions.
“In light of the situation, it has been decided to postpone matches in both professional and non-professional competitions, including 11-a-side and indoor football, within the Valencia region,” the federation said in a statement.
Earlier in the week, the RFEF had already rescheduled several Copa del Rey first-round fixtures, including Valencia’s clash with Parla Escuela.
Meanwhile, a minute’s silence will be observed across all Spanish football matches this weekend, including league leaders Barcelona’s Catalan derby against Espanyol on Sunday, in honor of the flood victims.
