The occasion marks the graduation of 15,000 youths from Imo and beyond, who participated in Cohort 2 of the SkillUpImo Project.
Dr. Chimezie Amadi, the Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government in Imo, highlighted that this initiative represents the governor’s flagship digital empowerment program, aimed at equipping Imo’s youth with Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) skills.
Earlier, on February 22, 2023, Governor Hope Uzodimma celebrated the graduation of 5,000 youths who received training in diverse digital skills, including front-end and back-end development, digital marketing, cyber security, data analytics, content creation, User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) design, graphics design, tracking engineering, phone repairs, and virtual assistance.
Cohort 2, which commenced on May 4, 2023, successfully trained 15,000 youths in these various knowledge areas, with many of them establishing startups and digital ventures. Several have also secured employment with tech companies such as Zinox, Konga, WakaNow, and other digital-driven enterprises within and outside Imo. These efforts align with the governor’s Shared Prosperity mandate to combat youth unemployment through technology.
