Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of betraying him despite his efforts and financial contributions toward Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Dokubo alleged that he spent his personal funds campaigning for Tinubu but was abandoned afterward.
Expressing disappointment, he vowed to align with the northern region and withdraw his support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dokubo also recalled telling Nigerians to hold him responsible if Tinubu failed as president, admitting that his earlier judgment was misplaced.
He said, “I want to apologise to our elders because they were right to form alliances with the North. As younger people, we will now do the same. From today, I will work to build an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I used all my resources to campaign for him. The Tinubu I see now is not the same man I once knew. We will send a clear message that only the Northerners can truly cooperate with the Ijaw people.
“We can’t continue to work with the Yoruba people; they have betrayed us. We put our lives on the line during the election, and this is the reward we get?”
